When a patient’s tooth needs its shape, size, strength, and appearance restored or improved, Dr. Scott R. Adishian may place a dental crown in Pasadena, California. Following the preparation of the teeth, impressions are made of the teeth using a very accurate impression material. Small strings are placed around each tooth to temporarily hold the gums away from the edges of the preparations to assure that the shape of each tooth is captured accurately. Following the impressions, the strings are removed and the temporary crowns are cemented with a temporary cement. The impressions are then sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the ceramic or metal-ceramic restorations. After several days, the patient returns to have the newly made ceramic or metal-ceramic restorations tried in and adjusted for aesthetics and shape. The crowns are cemented, in most cases, with a permanent cement. There are times when the restorations are temporarily cemented to allow the patient to evaluate the comfort and appearance over a period of days prior to permanent cementation. Follow up instructions are given to allow the patient to properly maintain the teeth.
