Before: Old Metal Ceramic Crowns
After: New All Ceramic Crowns
Teeth which have more extensive loss of tooth structure due to decay or wear may require more extensive techniques than the use of porcelain dental veneers. When aesthetics are of the utmost importance, as in the front parts of the mouth, Dr. Scott R. Adishian may recommend a ceramic crown in Pasadena, California. All-ceramic dental crowns may incorporate remarkable vibrancy and translucency, which very accurately mimics that of the natural teeth. This becomes important when matching the shade of the dental crown to unrestored natural teeth that may be adjacent to the restoration. Some varieties (such as LAVA crowns) have high-strength ceramic substructures over which a very aesthetic ceramic overlay is fused. These restorations are normally not used in the molar areas where maximum biting forces occur. Ceramic restorations may also be used for porcelain inlays and onlays, which only partially fill or cover the teeth.
Our dentist may place an all-ceramic dental crown to:
- Protect a weak tooth or to hold a cracked tooth together
- Restore a broken or worn down tooth
- Support a tooth with a large filling
- Cover an irregularly shaped or discolored tooth
